14 percent of international students in Canada are Indians

In 2015, Canada had a total of 3,53,000 international students studying at various levels. A good 14 percent of them were Indians. 51 percent of international students studying in the institutions there, plan to apply for permanent residence in Canada and 37 percent say they will stay on for further education. International students make up for 11 percent of post-secondary student population in Canada. Among the countries that send maximum no of students to study in Canada, India comes a close second, only to China.

In 2014 the number of internationally mobile students crossed the 5 million mark, and it is estimated that by 2022 the number of students studying abroad will reach 7 million.
In surveys being held, 95 percent students cite Canada as the best study destination. In a latest boost, the country is now planning an increase in the no. of international students and academic researchers to more than 4.5 lakh by the year 2022. This will be an economic fillip to the universities, since international students pay much higher tuition fee than Canadians. The Canadian Trade ministry has clarified that the move will be made without reducing the seats for the Canadian students.The federal strategy is also to increase the no of jobs sustained by overseas students by almost a lakh.
