Carpenters the focus of latest Nova Scotia Express Entry draw

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream held a draw for provincial nominations on September 20. The draw exclusively targeted eligible candidates from the Express Entry pool with carpentry experience. The draw selected 22 of these carpenters, sending them all provincial nominations

The Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities Stream uses the federal Express Entry pool to access immigration candidates. It selects people with the skills and experiences in fields that are in short supply and high demand in the province. The province does not have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) or Expression of Interest (EOI) score requirements.

How Nova Scotia Recruited Skilled Carpenters

The selected candidates from the September 20 draw needed to meet three credentials to qualify for this provincial nomination.

First, they needed proof that they had at least two years of carpentry experience. This was done through references from former employers. For self-employed carpenters, they needed documents from clients specifying the work they did and how they were paid.

Second, they needed to provide their Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score. The CLB evaluates the applicant’s abilities in either English or French. It evaluates based on speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This draw required a CLB score of 5 or more.

Finally, the candidates needed to demonstrate that they had funds to support themselves and their families in Canada. This is to make sure that they can establish themselves in the community and that they can live well.

The provincial nominations sent to the candidates will go towards their applications for Canadian permanent residence. As a result, the nomination adds 600 points to the CRS scores on their Express Entry profiles. Evidently, having such a high score on their profile will push them to the top of the ranking. This means it is almost certain that they will be picked in future Express Entry draws.
