Alberta sends 115 provincial nominations to Express Entry candidates

Alberta held a provincial Express Entry draw on October 9, where 115 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nominations. These Express Entry candidates were drawn through the federal system, which manages economic immigrants from the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, and the Federal Skilled Worker Class.

Like many Express Entry draws, Alberta Express Entry selects candidates who meet a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS ranks Express Entry applicants based on factors such as their educational background, work history, French or English language skills, and age. For this draw, the selected candidates needed to have CRS scores of 350 points or higher. Although it is not the lowest score Alberta Express Entry has required, it is still significantly lower than the federal Express Entry minimums. The lowest CRS score that the federal Express Entry required in 2019 was 438. In contrast, the lowest score requirement in Alberta this year was 300.

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has proven to be especially helpful for Express Entry candidates who have lower CRS scores. CRS score requirements are significantly lower than the federal draw. As a result, qualified candidates who are short just of the federal scores can boost their score with provincial nominations. Provincial nominations add 600 points added an applicants Express Entry profile. And such high scores all but guarantee a candidates’ selection in the federal Express Entry stream. Subsequently federal draws award successful candidates with Canadian permanent residence.

Qualifying for Alberta Express Entry

The AINP looks to give provincial nominations to immigration candidates who meet any of their requirements. First, the candidate should have connections to Alberta. This could be a close family in Alberta, previous work history, a job offer, or experience attending school in the province. The candidate should also have the potential to contribute to economic development and the labour market. Finally, the program looks for immigration candidates who help the province meet their diversification objectives.

September 11 Alberta Express Entry draw had minimum score of 302

The latest Alberta Express Entry Stream’s draw saw 339 candidates being  invited for provincial nominations. The September 11 draw had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of just 302 points.

The draw was held in association with the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). The program searches the federal Express Entry system for potential immigration candidates who would benefit the provincial labour market. The program mainly targets those who already have connections with Alberta.

The Alberta Express Entry Stream considers a variety of factors when choosing the candidates for its provincial nominations. As mentioned previously, the stream does look for candidates who have connections with Alberta. This may include a history of working or studying in the province or having close family currently living in Alberta.

Another aspect the program considers is the applicants’ Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Express Entry uses this system to rank candidates based on their age, work history, education, and Engish or French language skills. However, Alberta has held a reputation for keeping their minimum score requirements relatively low. In previous draws in 2019, the scores have been as low as 300. On the other hand, in the federal Express Entry draws, the lowest score has not gone below 438 this year.

Selected candidates receive a Notificatication of Interest that invites them to apply for a provincial nomination. Subsequently, they will have 30 days to apply and process the application. This nomination is an endorsement from the province and allows the recipient 600 points for their CRS score. Additionally, his score will place them among the top qualifiers in the federal express entry and will make them almost certain to receive an invitation for Canadian permanent residence.

Alberta Extends 121 invitations through Express Entry

August 15t saw Alberta send out 121 invitations for candidates to apply for a nomination for Canadian permanent residence. All candidates were selected from Canada’s Express Entry system.

The province examined eligible profiles in the Express Entry system. Many of the accepted candidates had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores of just 400 points. As a result, candidates received Notifications of Interest (NOIs). The NOIs will allow them to apply for a provincial recommendation. If accepted, applicants will be rewarded 600 CRS points. Such high scores all but guarantee that the applicant will be selected in a federal express entry draw.

The Alberta Express Entry Stream uses the federal Express Entry System for the purpose of finding candidates well suited to the province who meet their eligibility requirements. This provincial stream has been implemented once before: this resulted in a draw on August 7th that saw 35 invitations issued. Some candidates in that draw had scores of only 352 points. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has sent over 5,500 NOIs since the Alberta Express Entry Stream launched.

Lower Scores for Alberta Express Entry

Creating a profile with the federal Express Entry system allows applicants to be considered in the Alberta Express Entry Stream. Additionally, Express Entry profiles create connections with any other Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

The Alberta tends to select candidates with lower CRS score minimums compared to other Express Entry streams. For instance, score requirements have been as low as 300 in four different draws in Alberta this year. On the other hand, the lowest score in the 2019 federal Express Entry draws was 438 points.

The province of Alberta does not explicitly require previous work experience or a current job offer in the province. However, it does give priority to applicants with them. It also prioritizes those with a degree from a Canadian post-secondary school and those with close family currently living in the province.

Alberta Government Says Rural Immigration Programs are on track

Alberta’s new premier Jason Kenney says that his campaign promise to launch two new immigration programs could bring 40,000 new inhabitants to the province’s rural areas. Kenney previously served as Canada’s immigration minister between the years 2008 and 2013. He has vowed to create two programs called the Rural Renewal Program, and the Rural Entrepreneur Immigration Program.

Consultations regarding these programs are set to take place later this year.These will include local employers, experts, and pre-existing immigrants in rural areas. They are touted to benefit the smaller communities across the province.

Kenney had previously claimed that the Rural Renewal Program would be tied to the federal Express Entry system.The target for the Rural Entrepreneur Immigration Program is to bring in approximately 500 experienced foreign entrepreneurs and their families each year.

The program would require that selected entrepreneurs meet certain goals, such as a minimum investment and net worth, as well as play an active role in managing a business of which they own at least 51%.

If successful, candidates would receive a temporary two-year work permit which would later lead to an invitation to apply for permanent residence as long as they uphold the minimum thresholds outlined by the program.

Alberta invites Express Entry candidates with CRS scores as low as 300

The province of Alberta has invited 262 Express Entry candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System scores as low as 300 to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence in the June 21 draw.

The cut-off score of 300 is significantly lower than the lowest score drawn through a federal Express Entry draw so far in 2019, which was 438.

To be eligible for the Alberta Express Entry stream, Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) also requires EE candidates to work in an occupation that supports “Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities” among other criteria. The AINP has not listed the occupations that are eligible so far.

A job offer or previous work in Alberta is not required to be eligible. However, the AINP may give priority to candidates who have a strong connection with the province. The following factors may improve your chance to receive a Notification of Interest letter:

1, Alberta job offer and/or work experience;

2, A graduate of a Canadian post-secondary institution;

3, A relative that is living in Alberta.

A total of 3,816 Express Entry candidates have been invited to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence through the Alberta Express Entry stream in 2019.

Express Entry candidates with a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score, which can effectively assure an invitation from the Government of Canada.
