The BC Tech Pilot Program

The BC Tech Pilot program is not a new immigration program. It is special care for jobs in short supply in BC. Starting from June 26, 2018, the job category of occupations was expanded to the following 29 occupations, all of which can be applied. BC PNP Tech Pilot opened in 2017 and extended to June 2019.

This program is to help tech companies attract and retain international talent. The British Columbia government has also been creating opportunities. It is a great benefit for international students who are studying related jobs here. Those who want to immigrate should hurry up and don’t miss it.

There are two main categories in Skills Immigration program:

Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC), both of which require offer from local employers in BC. The difference is that the requirements of IELTS score are different. SI does not need to enter the Federal EE system. Candidates with IELTS level 5 can apply for this Stream. EEBC requires a minimum of IELTS 6 in each band to enter the Federal EE system. Also, EEBC applicants can get an additional 600 provincial nominations points.

25 new invitation in the BC PNP Tech pilot draw

In the draw that took place on July 4, the province of British Colombia issued 25 invitations under the new tech pilot Provincial Nominee Programme.

The British Colombia administration has upgraded the tech pilot programme by improving the list of key technology occupations and also changing the job offer requirements as enlisted under this programme. The invitations were issued to candidates who meet the BC PNP Tech Pilot eligibility requirements. Before the changes were made, the programme required a permanent indeterminate job offer but now it requires an offer of only one year.

The tech pilot of the BC PNP was launched in 2017 to attract and retain skilled workers and students to strengthen the province’s technology sector requirements. This programme has now been extended to June 2019.

Candidates invited under BC’s Express Entry-aligned streams, such as Skilled Worker and International Graduate streams, or any other provincial streams obtain 600 additional points in their federal application under the category certificate from province.

Skills Immigration candidates with a successful nomination from the province will have their applications for permanent residence processed outside the Express Entry system. Any candidate interested in the PNP’s also must first submit their Federal profile so as to be eligible. Once CIC assesses their profile, they would receive a CRS based on their age, education, work experience and language skills.
