3,600 Express Entry Candidates Invited to Seek Canadian Permanent Residence in Latest draw

A nation-wide Express Entry draw held on Monday, August 12th saw 3,600 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence issued to eligible candidates.

The lowest Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) was 466, which is seven points above the minimum score from the last draw held on July 24th.

Express Entry candidates are given a CRS based on factors such as age, education, language proficiency in either French or English, previous skilled work experience, and other criteria. 

The majority of Canada’s skilled foreign workers immigrate through the Express Entry system. 

Regular draws extend Invitations to Apply to candidates who meet the requirements of three main immigration categories. Candidates in Express Entry are either filed under the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, or the Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates who wish to be eligible for these draws must create an Express Entry profile and file an expression of interest to apply for permanent residence.

During this recent draw, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) had to issue a tie break. The tie break procedure was introduced in June of 2017. When two candidates in the pool have the same CRS score, the system will prioritize the candidate who have been in the pool longer.

The 3,600 candidates from the August 12 draw bring the total candidates who have been issued an invitation to apply up to 52,600 for 2019. 

This draw is part of a continuous effort to increase the number of invitations issued. The federal government hopes to increase the amount of immigrants granted permanent residence in 2019. It expects to reach a goal of 89,800 invitations by the end of the year.
