17000 new parents and grandparents applications to be accepted


Canada to now accept 17,000 applications under Parents & Grandparents Program in 2018

IRCC has said that increasing annual cap by 7,000 will best support immigration goals. The Government has increased the number of applications that it will accept for processing this year, which were earlier said to be capped at 10,000 applications. Parents & Grandparents Program

 

The additional 7, 000 invitations will be issued using the same randomized selection process that IRCC has been employing for its earlier invitations this year. Sponsors who receive an ITA will have 2 months from the date they receive their invitation to submit a complete application.

 

IRCC’s Parents and Grandparents Program is one of Canada’s Family Class sponsorship initiatives and allows successful applicants to apply for permanent residence for their parents and / or grandparents. To be eligible to sponsor one’s parents and grandparents to become a permanent resident, applicants must be:

 

  • 1. At least 18 years old; and

  • 2. A Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

  • 3. If you sponsor your parents and grandparents to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you must

  • 4. Support that person and their dependants financially

  • 5. Meet the minimum necessary income level for this program by submitting notices of assessment issued by the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) in support of their sponsorship.

 

Sponsors must also demonstrate they have met the minimum necessary income level for three consecutive years. If married or in a common-law relationship, the income of both persons can be includedand the sponsor and the sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement that commits the sponsor to provide financial support for the sponsored person for up to 20 years. Sponsors applying in Quebec must also be eligible for Quebec’s immigration sponsorship requirements after IRCC approves them as a sponsor. To prove income levels, sponsors must submit notices of assessment issued by CRA for 3 years.
