Three Canadian cities score in the world’s top ten most livable

Every year the Economist Intelligence Unit Global Liveability Index release a complete list of the top 140 most livable cities in the world. As a result, this year saw three Canadian cities on the list’s top ten: Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto. Canada and Australia had the most cities in the top ten, with three cities each. 

The Economist Intelligence Unit ranks its top 140 cities based on a livability score out of 100. It evaluates each city based on its stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. 

These three prospering cities ranking in the top ten most liveable is fantastic news for the current residents. However, it’s also excellent news for prospective Canadian immigrants searching for the right city to make a new start.

Calgary

Calgary, Alberta, ranked at number five on the list, with a score of 97.5 out 100. It ranked perfectly in all categories except culture & environment, where it still received an impressive score of 90. Calgary is one of the most economically prosperous cities in the country due to its booming oil and gas industry and a population of over 1.2 million. From 2011 to 2016, Calgary received 46 per cent of Albertan immigrants.

Anyone interested in moving to the fifth most livable city in the world has several options to immigrate. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program primarily uses three streams. These are the Alberta Express Entry Stream, the Alberta Opportunity Stream, and the Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream.

Vancouver

In sixth place was Vancouver, British Columbia with a score of 97.3 points. With a population of more than 2.4 million people, Vancouver if Canada’s third-largest city in terms of population. Dubbed “Hollywood North,” the city is subsequently one of the most popular filming locations in North America, serving as the set for numerous blockbuster films. Vancouver received most of British Columbia’s immigrant population from 2011 to 2016, welcoming over 142,000 newcomers.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program uses two main immigration streams: Entrepreneur Immigration, and Skills Immigration which is associated with Express Entry. 

Toronto

Toronto, Ontario, came in seventh place, scoring 97.2 points. Incidentally, Canada’s most populated city is also one of the biggest tech industries in North Ameria. For instance, the city has created approximately 80,100 jobs in the tech industry. More than 46 per cent of the Greater Toronto Area’s 6.4 million population consists of immigrants.

For those wanting to join the largest city in Canada and seventh-most livable city in the world, there are immigration programs available in the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s three categories. There is the Business Category, for entrepreneurs looking to establish a business in Toronto. Next is the Employer Job Offer Category. Here, businesses reach out to potential employees via the Foreign Worker, Internation Student, and In-demand Skills streams. Finally, there’s the Human Capital Category, with five streams of its own, connected to International Graduate Streams and Ontario’s Express Entry.
